Star Wars: Lost Legend
Ord Mantell was known as the Heart of the Bright Jewel since it orbited the blue star Bright Jewel at the center of the Bright Jewel system. The planet was famous for its thick, outer cometary cloud, which glowed with a pinkish cast when viewed from space, ensuring its place as the site of the Blockade Runners’ Derby for nearly 100 years.
Two large moons and thirteen other satellites orbited the planet (to which was added the Jubilee Wheel), and the cloud cover was tinged with pink when viewed from the planet’s surface. This collection of natural wonders made Ord Mantell something of a tourist attraction, despite its seedier side. It was also the homeworld of the Mantellian Savrips and Mantellian flutterplumes, whose sentience was largely unnoticed or ignored.
Mountains and islands were the distinct features of Ord Mantell’s terrain. Almost every land mass on the planet was dotted with mountain chains. Ord Mantell’s continent of Worlport boasted a sprawl of cities along its southern shore and it is this part of Ord Mantell that many spacers regarded as a safeport, famous for casinos and for tourists, of which it attracted almost one billion annually. Other metropolitan areas lacked address markings and were considered not intended for outsiders. The thinking behind this was that if you don’t know where you’re going, then you don’t belong here.
Outside of the urban sprawl, the narrow equatorial band of starports and the volcanic islands, Ord Mantell remained largely rural and low tech. Its extreme reliance on fossil fuels kept the planet quite barren, huge robotic coal yards remained to fuel the planet’s cities and an immense junkyard littered a large portion of the planetscape.
Cities / Forts / Settlements:
To the south was a sandy coastline and to its north was a wasteland that led to Ten Mile Plateau. The city was built mainly with sprawling Corellian classic-revival architecture. Worlport contained Government House, the Lady Fate Casino, and the Hotel Grand.
A bustling city said to be a home or refuge for those displaced from the Galactic Civil War that’s reigns throughout the galaxy. The City is more or less of a trading outpost, mainly used to keep tourists entertained and to trade many goods and gifts with offworlders and other areas of the planet. There are no rules in the city, and the government of Ord Mantell simply collects a tithe or tax from the city to remain operational.
The Fort is essentially a small town who focuses on the age-old junk to process, clean, retrofit, and craft in order to trade them for credits and necessary resources they cannot find near their settlement. The town hosts The Ransomed Rancor, a cantina and entertainment center for those of the Fort. The Dwelling, which is the housing and residential district of the Fort. A small time casino which routes some tourism into the Fort for passerby’s who need a break from their journeys and hyperspace sequences called The Cached Credit. The Fort also teams with two shuttleports, designated Shuttleport Aurek and Shuttleport Besh, for interplanetary travel, and a three bay spaceport named Spaceport Cerie for intergalactic travel. The Fort is also home to very few hotels for those passerbys and even recreational areas for gardening, sports, and the youth. Food is generally founded in the cantina as well as the casino. The staples of the Fort generally put strictly food places out of business due to the convenience that comes with the food being founded in the cantinas and casinos.
Old and abandoned Fort from the Great Sith War era. Used as a home base for Republic interaction and war room analyzing, the Fort is said to carry many ancient ghosts who protect their Fort from anyone of the outside. The ghosts are said to deem all those who trespass as Seperatists, and enemies of the Republic. Much of the Fort is untouched.
A Fort that was the base of operations for the Separatists from the Great Sith War. The Fort has then been turned to an ordnance depot facilitated by freelancer organizations that trade weapons and military grade ordnance to other powers throughout the galaxy. The place is under strict lockdown, no one goes in from the outside unless warranted through commerce and trade. Fort Bessal is a secretive place that plans on keeping it that way.
The most famous of the Mantellian Savrip settlements. The species is a sentient species with their own language, but are very primitive. They trade through caravans, not by speeders or ships. The only real technology they utilize in forms of modern technology is the datapad and comlink. The hulking species is not known for their invitations and generally do not take kindly to other beings in their settlement without their consent. Though the species can be easy going, if you can get past their rough accents and intimidating features. There are anywhere from 10-60 non- Mantellian Savrips in their community at a time. Symbiotic relations usually keep the Savrips open to other species due to their inability to handle modern technology.
Landmarks / Environment / Landscape:
An island near Fort Cerie, it generally is a quiet place that many of the native species of Ord Mantell congregate and live at peace away from settlers, but from a distance it seems there is an artificial light that goes off once a day, and local people tend to cast it off as an omen for whoever seeks out the light without caution. There are tales of children and youngsters going to investigate the light just to end up being lost and missing. Because of the tales turned over too many times from generation to generation, most stay clear of the islands while others seem to challenge their peers by making games out of who can get closer to the island without disappearing, or who can swim through the water and touch the island. So far, no one has ever done it without going missing. Fog surrounds the island at night, and during the day, many of the native species walk the outskirts of the land, making it nearly impossible to get there with anyone watching your back.
The mountain range near Fort Cerie, it is usually snow topped for most of the planet’s cycle due to a local legend about the mountains growing so fast thousands of years ago that the water that got stuck upon it lay there forever encased in ice unable to break free of the mountains hold against Ord Mantell’s atmosphere.
The Ten Mile Plateau was a plateau located to the north of Worlport, on the planet Ord Mantell. A stellar-energy station was established on the top of the plateau, but has been giving off strange readings as of late.
